Avoid Common Makeup Mistakes

How much thought do you give to the makeup products you use and how you apply them? If you’re like most women, you may have been using the same products in the same way for years, and this can mean looking dated or overdone or downright drab.

One common makeup mistake is to use the wrong colors; you may use foundation that is too dark or eye shadow and lipstick colors that are not flattering for your skin tone. It may be good to visit a shop like Sephora or another that has samples of all their products available so you can check which shades are the best on you. If in doubt, choose a foundation slightly lighter than your skin and opt for soft bronze colors if you have darker skin, or pink shades if you have lighter skin.

Another common mistake is to apply too much makeup so that you no longer have a natural, flattering look. If you tend to wear a lot of makeup, try blending it a bit more or removing some with a tissue before you head out; this is especially important for a daytime, professional look. Choose neutral tones such as bronze for daytime and leave brighter and deeper shades for your nighttime look.

Women also may tend to buy the cheapest products they can find at the pharmacy or a mass market retailer, without much thought as to how these makeup products work or if they are even damaging their skin. Often you get what you pay for, and this includes your makeup products.

A few extra bucks for foundation that applies smoothly and that covers well, and that has nourishing moisturizers, can be a worthwhile investment. Those brand name mascaras and blushes and lipsticks can also last all day, versus cheaper brands that flake or wear off.
